Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks Review + Swatches

Katy Perry's collaboration with Covergirl is here..? 

I was actually quite shocked seeing these in my local Walmart, considering a bunch of people in the US have been pre-ordering these which are set to be shipped out May 15th. It could be that they're slowly rolling them out, because there were only 1-2 of each shade on the display I saw. Or maybe I just got lucky and someone made a mistake and put them out too early. Either way, I'm super excited to share with you my thoughts on the Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks. 

The Covergirl Katy Kat Matte Lipsticks is a wonderful new collaboration with Katy Perry and Covergirl, featuring gorgeous demi-matte lipsticks and I think also a mascara. Being demi-matte, the lipsticks are suppose to be very comfortable, and have a little sheen. 

I absolutely adore the packaging. We have the same shape tubes as the Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipsticks, except we get a gorgeous rubberized matte white lid, and black, simple lettering. 

I picked up 3 of the 12 shades, and let me tell you now, I will definitely be picking up more. There's a great variety of shades, from everyday colours to even a black and a purple shade. 

I tried to control myself from purchasing all the shades I saw on the display, but I picked up the 3 I would most likely use. 

In the store, I thought Sphynx looked more nude, but upon taking these pictures, it comes off as a coral/nude/pink. 

Still a super gorgeous colour though. 

Catoure is a very pretty brick/berry shade. It's a red shade that definitely isn't over the top or too bright. 

Probably my favourite lipstick name, Kitty Purry is a fun, cute, bright pink with purple undertones. 

Not the best shade to go with my "tan" but it's still super cute. 

Formula wise, these are one of the most comfortable lipsticks I've ever worn. They are NOT matte though, more of a satin finish. I have no idea why it's called matte though! I understand that the description says demi-matte, but for sure there isn't much matte to it, only when you wear it for a long period of time. You can get a great 4-5 hour wear with these without feeling dry at all, and it does stain your lips. Wearing it throughout the day, the satin finish does fade to matte, but you also lose the colour intensity as well. Overall, I love this lipstick. You get such a clean, smooth feeling lipstick that goes matte over time, without drying out your lips. It almost feels like I'm wearing nothing at all! This is probably one of the most comfortable lipsticks I've worn, and I will for sure be picking up more shades!

Budget Buys: Best Face Products Under $10

When I started to fall in love with make-up, buying cheap, affordable drug store make-up was my thing. I was too young and naive to know about the high end make-up world, and being able to purchase what I needed at a great price was how I was able to first grow my collection up until today. Now that I'm more comfortable with using all types of make-up products, I gear myself towards higher end brands, and occasionally jump back to drug store make-up when I find something I love. Drug store make-up was always my first love, and I will always turn to it when my pockets are sad and my heart needs filling. Today I will be sharing with you my favourite/best face products under $10. Yes you heard that right, all these products can be purchased for under $10! (Canadian, hehe) Now it was a hard challenge for me to find a great product under $10, since make-up has risen in price, and usually some products are pretty crappy the lower the price. Not these ones. These are products I use everyday and would repurchase over and over again. 

Best Face Products Under $10

Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless Pressed Powder ($7.96)

Out of all the drug store pressed powders I have ever tried, this is my holy grail. I go back to it constantly because it's affordable, and it works. For about $8 at Walmart, this product is an absolute steal. It controls my oily complexion for hours and the range of shades is quite amazing. I did a full review on this and the whole Maybelline Fit Me Matte + Poreless line a few months ago, if you're interested in seeing my thoughts on the concealer and foundation as well.

Flower Beauty Lighten Up! Brightening Concealer (BC2) ($8.98)

The Flower Beauty Concealer has been my go to under eye concealer for the past 6 months. It's super creamy and I never had trouble with creasing or being able to blend it under my eyes. It definitely does brighten up your under eye area which is awesome. The downside to this product is the fact that it's the twist up concealer. I feel like I always end up using more product than I should, and I go through these concealer tubes way faster than any other concealer I've ever used.

Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Foundation ($5.97)

I've done a full review on this foundation before if you're interested in reading more into what the foundation is like. This is my current foundation and I love it. Before this I was using my Motives Custom Blend Foundation, which can be pretty pricey depending on your skin needs and what not. I love that this foundation is under $10 and it leaves my skin looking matte and flawless.  

Maybelline Baby Skin Primer ($9.96)

Probably the most challenging face product for me to find under $10 but I did it. Many people hate the silicone feeling of Maybelline Baby Skin, but I feel like it's the only drug store primer that works for me and fills in my pores. I have really disgusting, shitty pores, and I need whatever I can to fill them up. This product does the job, without making my skin feel oily or too slick.

Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous Foundation Review

Here we are with something a little different for a change. I think this is probably my first full foundation review, how exciting! Today's review will be on the new (well, new to me) Covergirl Ready, Set Gorgeous foundation! This wasn't the foundation I had in mind when I was in Shoppers Drug Mart the other day. I only purchased it because it was on sale for $6.99. It originally is $8.99, which is still reasonable for a foundation. Before I became obsessed with make-up, I used to be an avid drugstore foundation wearer. I used one of the old Covergirl liquid foundations previously, Maybelline Fit Me the original one, and Revlon Nearly Naked. I then jumped to MAC and started using the MAC Studio Fix Fluid and omg, best foundation ever. I've jumped around many high end foundations but soon found to be bored of them. 

I'm ecstatic to have found such an affordable foundation that works amazing on my skin. This is definitely my new foundation and I'm so overjoyed that I found another drugstore foundation that I love, because that means I don't have to break my bank for expensive ones! 

This is definitely a medium coverage foundation, and it is definitely build-able to your coverage needs. What I love most about it is that it sets really fast and doesn't leave your face feeling sticky once you're done. The foundation keeps me looking matte for a good 6 hours tops. That's impressive for me because my skin looks really oily within 1-2 hours. I know, sad life. Another thing with this foundation is that even though I look a bit oily after a few hours, it doesn't feel gross or cakey. A previous foundation I wore would look so bad once I got oily. It looked like my face was literally melting. At least with this foundation, my skin looked dewy or it looked like I highlighted my face a bit. 

The shade I chose was 215 Warm Beige. It looks fairly light when you swatch it, but it seems to oxidize a bit and gets a wee bit darker. I should of definitely went with 210 for winter, but it doesn't hurt to look like you have a little colour in the winter!

This foundation comes in 12 different shades, and the Ready, Set, Gorgeous line also has a concealer and powder foundation. If you're oily or especially combination skin, this foundation would work wonders on you. For dry skin? Well, it doesn't accentuate my dry spots so I believe it would be okay for dry skin. For the price point, I believe this foundation is totally worth your while considering it's as amazing as other high end foundations I've tried. I totally recommend this!

Top 10 Mascaras You Need to Try

This is going to be one super lengthy post, so I hope you've prepared your eyes for lots of photos and reviews! Today I will be talking about ten (yes, ten!) mascaras that you need to try. All the mascaras featured in this post range from drugstore to high end, so it will fit any budget depending what you are looking for. 50% of the mascaras I'm reviewing are deluxe samples and 50% are full sized. Regardless, they have the same brush as the full size so it does not matter what so ever. 

For this review I will be focusing on what the mascara does, the texture of the wand, how well it works on bottom lashes, formula, and ease of use. I tried to photograph every single mascara on my eye, but bare with me because my digital camera sucked at super close up shots, so I ended up using my Iphone 5 camera hahahaha. I hope it still looks okay. WARNING: if you are creeped out by close up pictures of eyes, this probably isn't a post you want to look at then. Okay lets start!

The mascaras are not placed in any particular order. I chose not to rank them since everyone is looking for a certain need when it comes to mascaras, so no one will like the same thing. Sadly, my eyelashes are non-existent so I don't know if you will be able to tell a difference when you see the mascara used on my eyes. Enjoy anyways! 

No Mascara

This is a photo of my eye with no mascara, but I did curl my lashes. Look how sad and short they are. I always love wearing falsies because of my sparse lashes, but I do occasionally try to wear mascara instead now.

Only one coat was applied to each swatch of mascara on my eyes. I did this to avoid clumpiness and I wanted to see how the product worked if I was only using it lightly. 

Urban Decay Perversion Mascara ($26)

I recently got this from my August Ipsy bag and I am so happy I have it. 

What it does: Lengthens and blackens your lashes. 

Wand: Very thick soft bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Yes, no mess.

Formula: Wet, cream consistency. 

Ease of Use: (1 not easy - 10 easy) 10

Overall: Probably one of my favourites now.

Clinique High Impact Mascara ($19)

I've actually had so many samples of this mascara that I never had to buy a full sized one. 

What it does: Adds volume and length.

Wand: Very fine soft bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Favourite mascara for bottom lashes.

Formula: In-between wet and dry. 

Ease of Use: (1 not easy - 10 easy) 10

Overall: If you're looking for au naturale lashes, this mascara is for you.

Benefit They're Real Mascara ($29)

Again, another mascara I've never had to buy a full size of because I have like a million samples.

What it does: Volumizes, curls and lengthens.

Wand: Non flexible, stiff, prickly.

Works for bottom lashes: Yes and no. Not a fan of the wand.

Formula: Not too wet, brush doesn't carry excessive product.

Ease of Use: (1 not easy - 10 easy) 7

Overall: Everyone loves this mascara, but I've used better.

Make Up For Ever Smoky Extravagant Mascara ($28)

A surprise love in my book.

What it does: Separates lashes and creates volume.

Wand: A bit flexible, soft furry bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Works pretty well.

Formula: More on the dry side

Ease of Use: (1 not easy - 10 easy) 6.5

Overall: Great formula, but the brush may cause difficulties for some.

Yves Saint Laurent Effet Faux Cils Babydoll ($36)

Expensive for a reason.

What it does: Separates lashes and reaches even baby lashes!

Wand: Flexible, short bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Works wonders.

Formula: Creamy, not too wet.

Ease of Use: (1 not easy - 10 easy) 10

Overall: Amazing formula, does exactly what it states, worth the money if you purchase. Makes you have a very cute and flirty lash look. Very natural.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara ($30)

My holy grail.

What it does: Volumizes and creates dramatic lashes.

Wand: Non flexible, stiff bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Its alright, nothing special.

Formula: In between dry and wet. More wet.

Ease of Use: (1 not easy - 10 easy) 8 - Can get messy

Overall: One of my favourites. 3 coats make a super dramatic look. I only used one coat in the photo.

Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes ($28)

Mixed Feelings.

What it does: Volumizes, lengthens and separates.

Wand: Non flexible, stiff, pokey bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Not really.

Formula: Creamy, thick.

Ease of Use: 6 - brush is pokey.

Overall: Honestly, it gets the job done and my lashes look pretty awesome, BUT I just don't like the brush at all haha.

Covergirl Bombshell Volume Mascara ($10)

My favourite drugstore mascara.

What it does: Lengthens, separates, natural looking volume.

Wand: End 1: fat, stiff, thin bristles. End 2: Soft bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Decent.

Formula: Drier formula, not very wet at all.

Ease of Use: 8

Overall: Makes your lashes look super long without looking fake. Great drugstore mascara. Add many more coats of end 2 and it can create a dramatic look.

 Maybelline The Falsies Mascara ($8-10?)

Nostalgia. The first mascara I ever purchased for myself.

What it does: Lengthens, separates, creates a false lashes look.

Wand: Flexible, thick bristles.

Works for bottom lashes: Great for bottom lashes.

Formula: Very wet. Do not let it dry between coats.

Ease of Use: 9

Overall: Great drugstore mascara. Apply many coats for the false lashes effect.

L'oreal Miss Manga Mascara ($8)

Different, but awesome.

What it does: Lengthens, separates, volume.

Wand: Flexible, short bristles. 

Works for bottom lashes: Cone tip works amazing for bottom lashes.

Formula: Wet formula.

Ease of Use: 9

Overall: Love this new mascara, excellent wand for upper and lower lashes.
