May 2014 Topbox Unboxing and Mini Review

Finally my May Topbox came in the mail! It actually came on Friday and since I didn't come home until Tuesday morning I didn't get it until now haha. Super excited about this one because apparently it doesn't disappoint! Well of course I will know if it does or doesn't by now since I'm writing this post, but anyways. Here we go.

Recap on what Topbox is if you haven't read any of my previous posts, it is a beauty subscription serviced based in Canada. You pay around 12-13 bucks a month (thats the price including the taxes) and you receive 3-5 samples/deluxe samples in your box. Items can vary and sometimes you can get full sized items and boxes worth way more than what you're paying! Now on to the May Topbox.

For this month's box, they offered a deal that if you paid an extra $10 you would receive a surprise item in your box. I was down for a surprise so I paid it, and I will show you what was the extra item later on.

My May 2014 Topbox
For the May Topbox, if you noticed it didn't come in its usual cardboard tube since they decided for this month to use the money they would normally spend on these tubes and donate it to charities instead. I like this cute purple organza bag so I hope that's an option when we choose our packaging next month! My room is getting too overfilled with boxes.

If you are interested in purchasing any of these products below, the links are provided when you click the product name!

Benefit Cosmetics POSIEBALM Lip Tint Hydrator Lip Balm - Deluxe Sample ($4)
Lately I haven't been the biggest fan of Benefit products, I don't know, I guess it just doesn't appeal to me as much as it used to. Anyways I wasn't too excited to see this in my bag, but I tested it out and it does feel fairly nice on my lips. The sheer coral colour is very subtle and wearable for an everyday look.

Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Skin Balancing Lotion SPF 15 - Deluxe Sample ($4)
This is just one of those products I feel neutral about. I mean Elizabeth Arden is a great brand, but I am not that into skin care as I should be at my age. This product helps to maintain your moisture level all day and works best for combination skin.

Kinetics Nails Nail Polish in the shade "splatter it!" - Full size! ($9)
This polish really intrigued me. It seems like one of those textured nail polishes but this one reminds me of like a granite counter top. I think its super pretty though, probably going to try it on my toes, considering it is probably a little too dark for a Spring or Summer shade.

Hypnose Doll Lash Mascara - #01 So Black 6.5g/0.23oz - Deluxe Sample (practically full size) $20?
The full size of this mascara is only 6.5ml and in this sample size you get 4ml! That's basically the full amount, and I never finish mascara that fast anyways. I was happy to see a Lancome product in my Topbox because I enjoyed the Hypnose Drama and the Hypnose Star mascara. I hope this is awesome because "doll lashes" sound pretty amazing to me!

Yaby "Working Girl Palette" - Full Size ($14)+(5x$3.15)
This was the item that I got for paying $10 extra for my May Topbox. Would I say it was worth it? Yeah I think it was. So Yaby is a make-up brand that basically works to keep all your make-up efficiently all in one place. So this palette was actually created and put together for Topbox members. The palette itself, is empty and the quart piece was inserted in the palette and the eyeshadow colours were chosen and inserted in. I believe they're being held in place by a magnet.

Here are all the shadow colours I got.
I kind of wish Topbox put some sort of paper or description of this product in the box because I have no idea what shades I got, nor what any of the colours or anything is. Everything can be found in the link I put in the Yaby name above.

Swatches:
The colours are super pretty, but I noticed that the deeper shades were super buttery and smooth, and the lighter colours were fairly powdery and not as pigmented. Great eyeshadows though for a great price. This palette altogether was worth $29.75, and I only paid $10 for it!

Lancome Foundation Sample
This was actually one thing I did not like about this Topbox. Well, I mean you get a free ten day sample of a Lancome foundation, but you have to go to a Hudson's Bay counter to get it. Most beauty counters already provide you with a free sample of any foundation if you ask for it of course, so I feel like this isn't anything special.

Verdict:
Full Size Products: 2
Deluxe Size Products: 3
Samples: 0
Price for Bag: $12+$10 for the secret item =22 and change
Value of this month's bag: $66.75
Mel's Rating: 3.5/5
Pretty good.

Considering my first Topbox since my break from Topbox was pretty garbage, this definitely made up for it! If this box was a miss for me this month I was actually going to cancel my Topbox again, but it was actually pretty good.

Is there any product in this month's box you'd like a full review on? Let me know in the comments.

Check out my last month's Topbox here.

P.S: I'm planning on changing my blog schedule to every other day instead of strictly Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Does this seem like a better idea? Like for instance, instead of not posting at all on the weekends, my next post after this Friday will be Sunday, followed by Tuesday, then Thursday and so on. Please let me know which schedule is better!

  2. I was using this box as a decider whether to cancel or not too! I got the same box as you, and my $10 add-on was this: http://www.laqaandco.com/collections/lip/products/lil-lip-duo
