How do bloggers make blog posts with so little photos? I love photographing at many angles, and in different lighting. Another warning for you, a picture heavy post here! I got my hands on the Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks when they were first released on their website on June 25th I believe. Man, it was just as bad as when the Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipsticks released, which I did get on the first release day as well. I don't know what's up with me and buying things when they just come out. I should just wait until the hype dies down. It took me about 2 hours to get 6 shades in my cart (originally wanted 9 but then 3 didn't make it in the cart for whatever reason), and I got a double of a colour. Besides all that hassle, it was totally worth it for these babies.
I've been wearing them all day for the past week or so and I love them so much! For $6 a pop, I wouldn't mind picking up the rest of the shades. I fell in love with shades I never thought I would of liked!
I've been pulling the applicator out and putting it back in numerous times, and I haven't noticed any spillage or product oozing out of the tube. They must've addressed this issue before shipping to people??
Described as a greyed out beige or a "greige", this shade looked absolutely horrendous on me. Not the colour, the dryness. Oh, so, dry.
Note to self and others: HYDRATE YOUR LIPS FIRST!! I learned my lesson on the third ultra matte lip I put on. You can see a huge difference in how my lips look on the third shade later. I love the colour though, it's super cute and almost has a tinge of purple to it.
Comparison with ABH Pure Hollywood:
I decided to see if it was similar at all with Anastasia Beverly Hills Pure Hollywood, and it was no where close. I don't know why my Pure Hollywood swatch looks that colour, but it could have been the lighting.
In the tube they look fairly similar in tone, but as you can see, totally different. The difference in texture can definitely be felt when swatching the two brands. ABH is a lot creamier and dense, with a light scent, and Colourpop is way lighter and had no scent. The Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip Liquid Lipsticks dry within 10-15 seconds, whereas ABH can take a few minutes depending on how many layers you put.
It's not recommended that you layer the Colourpop liquid lipsticks because they don't blend with the first layer well. Unlike the ABH, Colourpop liquid lipsticks don't transfer (unless you eat really greasy Chinese food, which I did the first time I wore it out).
I honestly thought this was going to be my favourite shade, considering I love nude pinks.
As you can see, I didn't apply lip balm first, and I overlined my lips to see if it would look terrible with their liquid lipsticks. It did, up close.
From afar it doesn't look too bad.
I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SHADE. I will repurchase this shade over and over again for the rest of eternity. This is the most gorgeous dusty reddish/brown/almost pink. I don't even know what to describe it as.
This is when I realized "hey maybe I should apply some lip balm first, and blot of the excess." Worked like a charm. Looks a lot better now doesn't it? Isn't the shade absolutely stunning?!
A dusty mauve burgundy. I really thought that I had a shade similar to this, but I thought wrong. I was never a big fan of browns, but this one looks amazing with the hint of red.
Comparison to ABH - Vamp:
Anastasia Beverly Hills - Vamp is closely similar to Colourpop Tulle. Vamp is a deeper brown, where Tulle has more red to it. It could be a colour you can skip if you already picked up Vamp.
I've been in this phase of trying to like corals, and I think this one is a great transition. Ouiji is a very bright pink coral, but not too orange that your teeth with look yellow (I mean, who wants that?).
I found Ouiji to apply on very streakily. I don't know why. This was the only shade that had the most issue with evenness.
When I first saw this shade, I knew I had to have it even if I haven't seen swatches. A bright matte magenta? Mine.
I found that deeper colours looked best, formula wise. No streakiness or unevenness.
For $6 are they worth it? Every single penny. The fact that you can get a liquid lipstick in a huge 25 shade range for only $6, that actually lasts long, and looks good? I'm sold. I haven't had any issues with the packaging yet, but I will update if they start to leak. I leave them laying down in my Muji acrylic drawer, so I'll definitely notice leakage. The one thing I noticed that was "cheap" about it was the doe foot brush. They were a lot stiffer than most lip glosses/liquid lipstick applicators I've tried. If you held the brush the wrong way it wouldn't apply nicely. Other than that, great product for an amazing price!
(Updated: I wore the shade "Bumble" one day from 10am to about 11pm. That day, I ate food from ikea, and also had greek food for dinner. Surprisngly the colour stayed on nicely for the full 13 hours, and only the outline of my lips transferred onto the napkin when I blotted my mouth after eating. Even having a bit of transfer, the colour was still vibrant and there was no crumbly mess! This is probably my favourite liquid lipstick formula!)
What shade was your favourite?
